Welcome To The London Writers' Society Website
"Put it before them briefly so they will read it, clearly so they will appreciate it, picturesquely so they will remember it and, above all, accurately so they will be guided by its light." ~ Joseph Pulitzer

The London Writers' Society is a community of writers in and around London, Ontario. Some of us are selling our work - short stories, mysteries, novels, poetry and non-fiction articles - and others of us are "wannabees" still learning our craft with the help of LWS critique groups.
Yet we have one thing in common: a need for feedback and encouragement from other writers. Writing is, by its nature, an isolating endeavor. Having a community of supportive colleagues and friends is vital to every writer's well-being. So we have come together as "writers helping other writers."
If you are a writer, we'd love to meet you. Come to one of our general meetings and see what we have scheduled. It might be a public reading by an accomplished poet, a presentation on forensic investigation, a mini-workshop on query letters or a session on writing Flash Fiction designed to get your writing juices flowing.
Yet what we offer at our general meetings is only a taste. Bring a few pages of your work to one of our critique groups and get acquainted with some of the most intelligent and generous people you'll ever meet, who will help you hone your prose.
And if you are not a writer, but a well-read reader who likes to "hang out" and help budding writers, then we invite you to come around, help critique our work and make friends in time to have a riot at our end-of-the-year holiday party. There's a literary world awaiting you within the London Writers' Society. Join us and be part of it.

You need not bring work to participate. Your impressions and comments on the work of others will be appreciated.
GUIDELINES FOR "NON-FICTION"
Should you have questions about what can be classified as non-fiction, the category is broad. Bring website copy, inspirational stories that are true, memoir, creative non-fiction, a brochure mock-up,
a business letter, an article on travel, an essay on any topic whether secular or religious, a letter to the editor, etc. Whatever you are working on is suitable, so long as you want honest feedback on it.
It is preferred that ongoing participants become members of the London Writers Society, however, I invite you to join us and get acquainted first.

Dear Friends, Ron Stewart, who runs poetry discussion workshops in association with Poetry London, published a recipe book as a fund raiser to help Mary Campell, a
friend diagnosed with brain cancer. Here's his story:
|
This project started one evening last December, at dinner, when my wife suggested we make a cookbook as a fundraiser for Mary. A flight attendant for Jazz Airlines, she had been diagnosed with brain cancer.
Recipes poured in from across the country from flight attendants and airline personnel. I collected, edited and formatted the recipes, and self-published them in a nice little cookbook called Flight Food Fight,
and distribute them on a donation basis.
I mail out the majority via Canada Post at a cost of about $2 per book and, so far, 160 generous souls have donated anywhere from $10 to $100 per book.
Mary is showing the effects of chemo and radiation, but here's a photo of her just about when she received the diagnosis. She is a wonderful person, a wonderful friend, and this is why we are doing what we
can to help her financially.
|
Should you want to help Mary and receive a terrific little recipe book as your link to Mary and her healing, contact Ron at: rcstewart(at)rogers.com.
